Decisions and Hindsight

Last week, Patrick lost his voice. I asked all the appropriate questions and got no answers. When his EA asked him he said he was sick. No fever, no cold symptoms. When I asked him again he told me "the bacteria are attacking my throat cells". Huh??? He never did say anything hurt.

So Friday I decided a sore throat (I was guessing) for 3 days plus swollen glands merited a trip to the pediatrician. I called first to ask if lack of fever meant he was fine. She suggested we come in. She took a throat swap and prescribed antibiotics. Patrick's never taken them before so I was worried how he would tolerate them (my gramdma is allergic). I asked if she wanted me to wait till the results came back before starting the meds, since if it was viral they would do nothing. She advised me to start them because if it was bacterial he'd be able to go to school on Monday if he was on them for two days. I felt silly but for once didn't argue and just did what I was told.

Got the call yesterday. It is indeed strep. I am so glad in hingsight we did what we did. He's looking so much better and able to go to school. And, apparently, you can have strep with no fever. Go figure!

The tree is up! Yay! And Patrick seems to have no problems leaving it alone. He did want to pic up a bell and ring it...he asked first...then he put it back on the tree. Now that I can live with.

We got some shopping done this weekend while our respite worker watched the boys. Hubby did really well considering he's such a scrooge. Can you really blame him though? For the past 9 years he's been our sole source of income so I could stay home, first for a short period of time when the boys each were born and, eventually, because I didn't feel I could put Patrick with anyone else. So it can be tough. He's stressed and trying so hard to provide. And I have to go out and insist on buying gifts for people, some of whom aren't his favorite people (the question "what have you done for me lately" comes to mind). But he was good and it went well and now I feel bad because I can't seem to not give gifts even when we can't afford them.

There, that's the only griping I'm going to do about money. On to the joy and fun of the holidays. Last year was Patrick's first year understanding Christmas so this year I think will be super fun because he knows what's coming.

Christmas Decorating

*sigh* 'nuff said.

Ok, I'll elaborate. Christmas decorations are evil. Whoever decided that hanging sharp, throat sized, shiney, or breakable items all around a house with children in it was a good idea????

I think this year might be better. Last couple of years our tree was up for about 4 days. I had to keep stopping Patrick from climbing it.

This year will be better, I think.

Soon, yes, very soon....

I will be back to blogging soon. It's just that I've had such a fabulous birthday weekend. A surprise party (we never usually even celebrate my birthday), a night away, time with friends and then a snow day yesterday where all four of us were home together. We brought wood into the house for the wood stove. :)
