The other shoe?

Ok, my posts lately have been pretty upbeat. I'm waiting. Waiting for the other shoe to drop. Is there another shoe? And will it drop?

Patrick has had almost two wonderful weeks at school. No phone calls. Just one note saying he's doing great, participating in gym and is enjoyable. He's come home twice this week with 'reading stars' on his hand.

Should I stop anticipating disaster? I'm afraid if I start to feel that he's actually capable of doing this consistantly that if something happens I'll be devestated. Better to be cautiously optimistic than overly so?

*sigh* Who would have thought that his success would have me going crazy???

Blows my mind sometimes

Ok, here's how it went.

Patrick climbs on the bus and says "hi driver" and gives her a big smile. She says "Patrick, do you know what my name is?". Patrick of course misuderstood and said "My name is Patrick, P is for Patrick."

She repeated to him "Yes, but do you know what my name is? My name is Joy." Patrick says "Hi Joy" with a big grin and a wave and then proceeded to sit down in his seat.

Need I say more?

Reactions

Patrick has been very difficult after school the past couple of days. All reports have been good from the school. So is he reacting to being good all afternoon by exploding every evening? There's a one to two hour period after school where he's cranky, growling, crying and basically unhappy. What should I do? Maybe he just needs some time to adjust?? It's only been 4 days.

So glad he's happy

Have not been sure what to write lately.

Patrick's first real day of school went well by all accounts. He sat for the most part on the bus both directions and his time in the classroom was without any big incidents. Setting up a meeting for an IPRC (psychologist was in the classroom yesterday) and then an IEP will be next.

He came home from school happy which was the most I could have asked for. I want the teachers to have a good year too but Patrick's happiness is first in my books. He even told me some of the things he did in the classroom.

Still looking for a respite worker. I'm getting closer to finding one though. One of the few drawbacks of living in the middle of nowhere. I am looking foreward to the precious time I'm going to have all by myself while Patrick is at school (half days). Maybe I'll even get more time to blog. It's amazing how us moms sometimes feel guilty for doing anything for ourselves. I'm learning to get over it! *grin*

Ducks in a row

Things are starting to feel a little more in order lately. By the end of the month I think I may even be able to take a big breath and relax a bit.

Patrick starts school for real on Monday. He's excited and I'm excited. I even got invited for tea with a mom whose daughter went to preschool with Patrick and will also be in his kindy class. She understands his issues and how I might feel about trusting him to school. She's a sweet person and may turn out to be a great support and friend.

We just increased his epilepsy medication because of rapid weight gain this summer. At the end of the month I have an appointment with his pediatrician. She sort of co-ordinates all his care. Neurologist, therapists, general health etc. We meet every few months (sans children) to discuss how things are going and any concerns I may have. I'm hoping to have good news for her in regards to how school is going since it will be well underway by then and we should have an idea if this is actually going to work.

Oh, and this is our new theme song. "The Patrick on the bus sits in his seat, in his seat, in his seat. The Patrick on the bus sits in his seat....aaaaaall the way to school!"

Proud Momma

Patrick went to school today. Four kids, two teachers and an aide. He took the bus by himself at lunch time. Got to school. Spent the Afternoon. Took the bus home.

Not bad for one day's work. *grin*

Monday will be his first real day of school. 17 kids, one of the teachers (they alternate days) and an aide.

I'm so proud of him (and me since I didn't follow the bus in my truck or sit outside the school all afternoon) that we're going out for chinese food when daddy gets home from work.

Disclaimer: I will most likely end up sitting outside the school monday reading a book. I'm brave but I'm not that brave. I however will not worry about the bus anymore (she says to herself most of all) since it looks like he did well today staying in his seat.

We're still alive

I went missing for a few days. Sorry about that. Mostly just pre-kindergarten stuff keeping me busy. I'm also figuring out a program for the half days that Patrick will be home alone with me.

I'll probably be missing till next week. I'll try to keep up my reading since I love keeping up with everyone's blogs.
